The Melbourne Section is drawn from the city’s core to the peri-urban fringe, cutting through different rings of urban development such as the CBD, inner, middle and outer suburbs and the hinterland. As representatives of these various rings, seven distinct suburbs were selected as areas of investigation and intervention.

The urban analyses interrogated the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of each suburb to outline a portrait of potentials for future resilient growth. Notions of change and their driving forces, identity, functional and economic interdependencies and potential synergies between the suburbs were investigated to assess their influence on living and working patterns within each of the suburbs.

These findings formed the base to develop interrelated future scenarios, building strongly on the specificities and assets of each place.
