Melbourne CBD is recognized as being an international city linking back to the World, supported through the development of the other suburbs.
The Hoddle Grid:
The preliminary drawings of the Hoddle grid by Robert Hoddle since 25th March 1837 has defined the development of the city. Each city block is divided and evolved to allow for building footprints and laneways.
The sporting areas' expansion is towards the East and the sprawl of Art Precinct and Galleries towards the South while the centre feeds off to Swanston street, which is highly animated by street performers and restaurants.
